What is coming up I need to know for August?
August 18th - Meet the Teacher Night 5:30-7:30
August 20th - First day of school

Reading Minutes:
The reading minutes for the month of August is 200 minutes.  Please help remind your child to mark their minutes on the calendar that goes home with them on the 20th. At the end of the month please initial the calendar so I know you have monitored this at home.

Homework:
During the first trimester, student's grades will not be affected by late assignments.  The first part of teh school year is definitely a transition.  Students need to get familiar with the building, each other, and the classroom expectations.  This is the reason why late work won't lower a grade during the first trimester.

During the second and thrid trimesters, all late assignments will only be worth 50% of the score earned.  Example: Matt came to school unprepared and forgot he had homework the previous night.  After the assignment is late, Matt stays in for recess and finishes his late assignment.  After the teacher checks his assignment, Matt gets 90/100 for a 90%.  Because the assignment was late, Matt's 90% is divided in half (90/2=45) and his new score is 45%.

Birthdays!
We love to celebrate birthdays!  Students may bring snacks and drinks to share with their classmates.  The snacks must be store bought and not have any nuts for we do have peanut allergies.  We will celebrate 1/2 birthdays for those students that have June, July, and early August birthdays.

If your child is having a party and wants to send out invitiations the school policy is for them to be mailed out and not passed out at school.

What parties do we have this year?
In fourth grade, students are responsible for the planning of holiday parties.  Each student will be part of a committee for a desingated holiday.  The committees will meet during recess to decide what games/activites will be held and what treats will be served.  Parents of students on the committee will be contacted to help with supplies and treats.  The students who are on each committee, along with my help, will be in charge of the parties.  Students seem to enjoy having this responsibility.
